KUALA LUMPUR – A three-day virtual career fair held from November 28 to 30, 2020 was organised to help the growing numbers of unemployed Malaysians struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as fresh graduates, to find suitable employment and to match their skill-sets and qualifications.
Organised by Celik Wang, Money Compass Media, Max Capital Management (MCM), Malaysia Literacy in Financial Education Association (MyLIFE), and uLearnMONEY, the MyMalaysia Career e-Fair , with the theme ‘Helping You to be Employable during the Pandemic’, proved to be a conducive, user-friendly platform for both employers and job seekers, that allowed convenient and conventional communications.
As a useful virtual platform to seek job opportunities, counselling and even job guidance, the event, sponsored by Zurich Takaful Malaysia Berhad, provided various facilities to visitors such as accessibility to directly undergo online interviews with the selected company and/or potential employer of their preference. It was also able to facilitate many direct recruiter-to-job seeker conversations, thereby increasing the probability of selecting the right candidate.
Mr Mukesh Dhawan, CEO of Zurich Takaful Malaysia Berhad, said during the official launch on November 28, “At Zurich, we are committed to Malaysia and always keen to grow by participating in events like this where we talk and discuss about financial literacy, which is gaining more attention and importance in the current times. But, let me tell you that what matters now is not just financial literacy or awareness but financial immunity.
“Financial immunity for ourselves and our family and how we can stay secure in overcoming any kind of challenging times such as the current pandemic has become the most important agenda on everyone’s priority list. This is exactly why events like the MyMalaysia Career e-Fair is so essential,” stressed Mr Dhawan.
With everything online, visitors were able to visit different booths virtually, enquire and gather information, besides befriending new acquaintances right from the comfort of their homes. Participants were also able to interact with companies and organisations via downloadable content, real-time chat options, webinars and videos so as to explore opportunities of their interests.
The webinars held throughout the event were conducted in both English and Bahasa Malaysia. On the first day of the MyMalaysia Career e-Fair, the Bahasa Malaysia webinar entitled “ Biar Celik, Jangan Pelik ” (“Be Literate, Not Perplexed”) involved speakers, namely Encik Azizi Ali, the author of “Jutawan Dari Planet Jupiter”, Money Mechanic Abang Abu, and Sifu Suhaimi.
The English webinars touched on “How to Be Employable in the Time of Pandemic” and “How to Recruit and Build Your Team in the Time of Pandemic” which involved professionals and experts from recruitment, training, and Human Resource consultation agencies.
“As the pandemic continues to reshape talent acquisition processes, we are increasingly turning to digital hiring solutions. Remote, virtual interviews and job placements are now commonplace, more job applicants are seeking safer ways to connect with potential employers. With the MyMalaysia Career e-Fair, everything was readily accessible right at their fingertips and within the safety of their homes,” concluded Ms Amy Seok, Chief Executive Officer of the Money Compass Media Group.
